The Public Service Alliance of Canada faces an uphill battle when it comes to bargaining. Unlike private sector unions, federal public sector workers are forced to contend with a different set of rules: the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations Act, or FPSLRA. Due to this piece of legislation it can sometimes feel like union members are stuck, and not sure why. PSAC came to us to create a video series that explained and simplified this tangle of red tape.

To make the complex subject matter engaging and digestible, we developed an overarching metaphor of transportation. The relatable feeling of trying to get somewhere, but facing obstacles, roadblocks, bottlenecks and barriers along the way. We drew comparaisons between different aspects of bargaining and workers rights with various modes of transportation. Combined with a punchy colour palette and charismatic members, the video was extremely well received by PSAC’s executive board and sparked many more videos in the same aesthetic.
